چکیده

RENKIN, EUGENE M. Trans-ort of jwtassium-q2 from blood to pissue in isolated mammalian skeletal muscles. Am. J. Physiol. Ig7(6): no5-121o. I g5g.A method is described for studying transcapillary diffusion of K42 in isolated perfused muscles of dogs. Blood flow and arteriovenous K42 differences are mea+ ured and blood-tissue clearance calculated by the Fick principle. A theoretical relation between blood flow and blood-tissue clearance is developed for a uniform circulation characterized by a constant permeability-surface area product (PS). The experimental observations conform reasonably close1 y o prediction. However, systematic variation in measured PS L roduct with changes in blood flow and vascular resistance indicate that the capillary circulation is not uniform.

A novel isolated dual perfusion/superfusion heart model for physiological and pharmacological evaluation of mammalian heart preparations

Abstract Introduction: Isolated perfused heart models such as perfusion and superfusion are commonly used for mammalian heart research. However, there are several fundamental limitations in the current techniques. In perfusion model, a suitable cannula is connected to the aorta and the perfusion is retrogradely performed. But, electrode displacement is a potential unwanted event resulted fr...

Effect of Aerobic Exercise with Blood Flow Restriction on Mitochondrial Dynamics Proteins of Human Skeletal Muscles

Background: Aerobic exercise with Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) plays an important role in skeletal muscle adaptation; however, the effects of this type of exercise on mitochondrial dynamics proteins are unclear. Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aerobic exercise with and without BFR on mitochondrial dynamics proteins of human skeletal muscles.  Methods: Pa...

Exchangeability of tissue potassium in skeletal muscle.

RENKIN, EUGENE M. Exchangeability of tissue potassium in skeletal muscle. Am. J. Physiol. 1g7(6): I~II-12 15. I g5g.-The quantity of ‘rapidly exchanging’ Kf in isolated, skeletal muscles of dogs was determined by measuring the back-diffusion of K42 during perfusion with blood containing this isotopic tracer. This quantity was not constant, but varied from da/$ to 88y0 of the total tissue K+. Th...

Capillary, interstitial, and cell membrane barriers to blood-tissue transport of potassium and rubidium in mammalian skeletal muscle.

Blood-tissue transport of 42 K, 8a Rb, and 22 Na was studied in perfused gracilis muscles of dogs to ascertain the influence of capillary wall, interstitial space, and muscle cell membranes on overall transport kinetics. Single-injection and continuous-infusion techniques were used, with T-1824 or 51 Cr-hemoglobin as nondiffusible references. Results were as follows: (1) Extraction (E) of the d...

Biochemical and functional evidences for a GLUT-4 homologous protein in avian skeletal muscle.

The characteristics and modulation of glucose transport were investigated in skeletal muscles of 5-wk-old Muscovy ducklings ( Cairina moschata). Glucose uptake by sarcolemmal vesicles isolated from gastrocnemius muscle followed typical Michaelis-Menten kinetics with a K m value (17 mM) similar to that described in equivalent mammalian preparations. Western blot analysis of duckling sarcolemma u...
